What is the Circle Chart? (Previously GAON Chart)
Besides digital music achievements, album sales are also highly significant for any K-Pop group.
Not only does this show the strength of their fanbase’s support, but it also earns revenue for both idols and entertainment agencies.
The GAON Chart compiles album sales data from weekly, monthly, and yearly shipments, showing which bands performed well through rankings.
The GAON Chart, now rebranded as Circle Chart, is South Korea’s national music chart.
It is the equivalent of Japan’s Oricon Chart and the United States’ Billboard.
Founded in 2010, the GAON Chart was formed by the Korea Music Content Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of South Korea.
Top 10 Best-Selling K-pop Groups

Since BTS’ debut in 2013, the ultra-popular K-pop boy group has sold over 34 million albums, making them the best-selling K-pop group of all time!
Their best-selling album is Map of the Soul: 7, with over 5 million sales.
Map of the Soul:7 is also the best-selling K-pop album, the first to surpass 4 million sales in 2020.
NCT has sold over 24 million albums across all sub-units, including NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, and WayV.
It makes NCT the best-selling group under SM Entertainment.
The album with the most sales is NCT 127’s 2 Sticker, released in 2021.
It has almost 2.5 million sales to date.
EXO became a “sextuple million seller” for selling over a million copies of six different albums in 2021.
Since the group’s debut in 2012, EXO has sold over 14 million albums.
Their best-selling album is Don’t Mess Up My Tempo, released in 2018, with over 1.45 million albums sold.

Stray Kids is the first 4th generation K-pop boy band to be in the GAON Chart’s best-selling KPop groups of all time.
The group debuted in 2017 but has reached several milestones in its career already.
As of October 2022, Stray Kids have sold 9.4 million albums, with MAXIDENT being their highest-selling album.
Stray Kids even becomes the second boy band, next to BTS, to have a triple-million-selling album!
TXT follows Stray Kids for being the second 4th generation K-pop boy band to be included in GAON Chart’s decade-long report of best-selling K-pop groups of all time.
TXT is under Big Hit Music, the same company as BTS.
